A Summer Mixer
Digging into the archives
Hello, Friends. We’re just over halfway through our three-week summer holiday at Casa McCrory, such is the languid stretch of time the Scandinavians typically take off this time of year. We’ve exhausted most of the big hitters—the zoo, aquarium, Tivoli, the Planetarium—so now there’s quite a lot of flopping around the garden and the paddling pool, when the weather permits. A trip to the supermarket definitely counts as an expedition, as does any length of time spent in the cargo bike. If there’s a pastry and a juicebox involved, we can usually call it a day.
So it goes that these slower moments force a deeper breath amongst us all. I figured it was a good time to share a few oldies but goodies from my archive, whilst I percolate on new stories, themes and ideas for when we all invariably return to our desks, offices and schools.
I count myself very lucky to have you as thoughtful and loving readers, and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know some of you better through the comments and exchanges we’ve had over the months. Thank you for joining me here. Long may this beautiful community continue!
With love,
Katie x

Where Will The Baby Go
For something that weighs around three kilos and measures in the region of 50cm, newborn babies sure do take up a lot of space. A little shy of three weeks ago, we brought our second baby back home—the same home we had brought back our first, just over four years ago. Many things have changed since then, not least the number of grey hairs on my head, but...
Friday Favourite #17
Hello, Friends. It feels like we all need some kind of balm for our souls, lately. Not to ignore the very real and horrifying things taking place around us, but to tend to our inner lives so we can persist in the face of adversity. And, lo, it was inevitable I would turn to a Nora Ephron stalwart eventually, given her generosity and precision in depicti…
Friday Favourite #28
Hello, Friends. I’m feeling a little upside-down. I’ve not been able to shake a coldy-glandy-phlegmy thing, acquired, no doubt, via the petri-dish of disease known as Kindergarten and my two children who insist on licking public surfaces. I thought I was on the up, but I’m currently sporting a really sexy bout of conjunctivitis which my husband describe…
Starting From Scratch
The day after my daughter was born, I remember looking out of the hospital window from my bed and watching commuters surge through the crowded traffic lights on their way to work. It was inconceivable to me that people were just going about their ordinary lives when mine had completely chang…
Life at Home With... Katy Wheatley
The first piece I read by Katy Wheatley was a tender and raw essay about maternal burnout that surged its way through my soul until I was weeping on the side of my bed. On that particular day I had found myself drowning from mothering, and her words were a lifeline that pulled me to shore. Katy writes about many things tremendously well, but the connective tissue be…
Friday Favourite #20
Hello, Friends. The clocks went forward in this part of the world last weekend, which means our evenings are extra light and bright. As parents of any stripe will know, honouring daylight savings in either direction presents a riddle within a box within a prison within a cage of impossibility because time is a social construct and your kids just wake up…
